Serendipity 3

I went to brunch at Serendiptiy 3 last weekend. The Upper East Side hot spot has been around for ages and seems to be as popular as ever. It is a great place to take out of town guests as long as they are willing to wait for a table. The restaurant opens at 11 am and we got there at 10:15 to make sure we were first in line. We weren’t the only ones with this idea, however. We ended up third in line though. We did learn that the restaurant takes a limited number of reservations, so for those of you looking to skip all the waiting, try to call ahead.

At 11 they brought us past the tiny gift shop (with lots of unique trinkets) up the stairs to our table. The menu at Serendipity 3 is large in size and in items on the menu. There are a lot of great sandwiches and the shrimp and avocado salad looked great. I was thinking I was more in the mood for breakfast, so I ordered french toast, but I regretted that choice later because it was too much sugar with ice cream for dessert. And you can’t go to Serendipity and not get ice cream.

My favorite item, by far, however, was the Tiffany coffee. It is espresso in a coffee cup topped with copious amounts of real whip cream and rainbow colored nonpareils. Once you eat the whip cream off the top the sprinkles and cream have mixed into the espresso and it is nothing short of heaven.
