Holey Cream!

I have been laying low recently because in general I am opposed to bad weather. The torrential rains didn’t stop me from trying out Holey Cream, a new dessert spot on 9th Avenue, yesterday though. After being stuck inside for most of Saturday I decided I needed to get out of my apartment and cheer myself up. I started by hitting a couple Mexican joints for some margaritas and enchiladas, but that didn’t quite do the trick.

Holey Cream is a spot in Hell’s Kitchen that specializes in donuts and ice cream. I love donuts and I love ice cream, so I figured mashing them together would be a great way to pretend like it was sunny and seventy-five. I think the donuts are made on the premises and they had two flavors yesterday, vanilla and apple spice. I wanted to go all out and get the ice cream and donut sandwich and I was so glad I tried it.

First you pick your flavor of donut. They split the donut in half like a bagel. On the bottom half they pile on your favorite kind of ice cream (up to three flavors if you want, I chose Birthday Cake ice cream). Then they dip the top half into your choice of chocolate or caramel. Finally they dip the top into your choice of topping from sprinkles to cookie crumbs to Reese’s Pieces. It was delicious and just what I needed to forget about all that rain!

UPDATE: I went to Holey Cream yesterday for another donut sandwich (I might have a problem) and learned that on Mondays they have buy one get one free! We got two donut sandwiches for $5.75! That is a great deal!

  1. The owner of Holey Cream is developing quite the reputation for not paying his employees. The constant verbal abuse and threats we all had to endure from him on a consistent basis were enough. But now I have joined the club of the six other past employees he has yet to pay. He owes me my rightfully earned $636.00 dollars for my over 70 hours of work. The things he gets away with are disgusting and I must encourage you and all others to PLEASE take your business else where and not support his evil doings.

  2. Good to know about the horrible business practices. We did think it was odd that we tried to tip the girl behind the counter and she told us that she didn’t get the money from the tip jar.

I might have to rethink my review of this place!

  3. Spend any amount of time in the store, when the owner is present, and you will witness an abusive boss. If he is stealing from his employees, it only adds to his negative resume.

  4. Hi there,
I’m opening a similar concept shop and will indeed pay my employees and treat them with the respect which I expect from anyone. can you tell me how he makes his donuts? I know he doesn’t have a big machine…does he pre freeze them?
For any valid info, I’m happy to compensate with freebies at my new place!

  5. I went there today and the manager is racist!!!!!!!!!!!!I would never is my life eat or even walk past this dump! Dont let the pretty pictures full you! He is a complete jerk.

  6. hey everyone it seems to me that this guy Michael Friedlander who seems to be the co-owner of the place had taken another victim… my girlfriend and to see others that have been taken advantage of from what i would loosely call a man is infuriating.
i am hoping that perhaps we can get together and chat about this situation please let me know if any of you are interested. Additionaly i would like to start some bad press for holey cream any ideas
