Champagne Brunch at Puttanesca

New York is a brunch town. What often makes brunch even better is the ability to drink early in the day without judgment. Some restaurants have embraced this idea fully, and offer to accompany your pancakes or eggs with unlimited amounts of the booze of your choice. Puttanesca, an Italian restaurant on 56th Street and 9th Avenue offers one of these fabulous brunches and I highly recommend it.

The great thing about Puttanesca’s champagne brunch is that it is truly unlimited. Some restaurants claim to have unlimited but start charging you after two or three drinks. This is not the case here. You can sit and enjoy your drink throughout the entire brunch time (which runs from noon until four). Puttanseca offers all sorts of unlimited drinks including champagne, mimosas, strawberry and peach bellinis, Bloody Marys and screwdrivers. You get unlimited drinks all for $12 with your choice of entree!

The entree choices are amazing and cheap at brunch too. You can have eggs and pancakes or traditional Italian fare like pasta and chicken. We just learned that the giant pizzas are also included with the brunch menu. The flat bread pizza here is delish! The entrees are priced to please ranging from about $8 to $12 as well. The waitstaff can be frazzled if the restaurant is packed, but be patient and they will reward you by refilling your drinks long after you have finished your meal. My only complaint is that it doesn’t open until noon. I always want to eat earlier than that. But if you are looking for delicious food and great drinks at a great price, Puttanesca is the place to be on the weekends!
