Smudge at Julia Miles Theatre

Earlier this month I won FREE tickets to see Smudge off-Broadway at the Julia Miles Theatre. It was the world premiere of this play. I saw an advertisement on Playbill.com that the theater was offering free tickets to the previews of the show if you emailed requesting them. I did and was lucky enough to score two FREE tickets! If you can’t score free tickets, check Broadway box, which has a great discount for the show right now.

The play was really interesting. It had a cast of three. This can be really good if the acting is good, or really bad if it isn’t. The acting was impressive and I enjoyed the show. I especially liked Brian Sgambati who had the smallest of the three roles, he played the brother and co-worker of the father, but he was really funny and had great stage presence.

The plot of the play revolves around a couple who give birth to a deformed child, essentially, a child that looks like a smudge. The play shows how this couple deals with their new arrival and it really raises some interesting issues. It was especially interesting that the audience never sees the baby, but instead sees a tripped out baby carriage that beeps and blinks different colors. The show is running through February 7, so go check it out before it disappears.
