Drinks at Soho House New York
This holiday season I was lucky enough to make it into one of Manhattan’s more exclusive locations, the Soho House New York. The Soho House is a small hotel and club located in the Meatpacking District. It is probably most famous for its appearance on Sex and the City, as it houses the exclusive rooftop pool that the girls sneak into in Season 6 of the show.
Usually, if you are not a guest of the hotel or paying a large amount of money to maintain your membership at the Soho House, you are not allowed to mix with the celebrities in the bar, lounge, and restaurant. Lucky for me, though, I know people, or rather I know people who know people. My friend was celebrating her birthday and her friend who works for the Soho House got us on the list.
We girls got all dolled up and headed over for drinks and snacks to celebrate the day. We figured we couldn’t afford the restaurant so we parked in the bar/lounge area. It was very darkly lit and sadly we saw no celebrities that night (although we read a few names who were there a few days later). The menu of finger foods was delicious and the drinks were good, although not as fabulous as I would have expected.
We did learn two odd rules of the rich and famous while there… first, there were no photos allowed. I understand this rule because pictures would probably annoy the more famous type. The second rule made us all laugh. When you go to the bathroom at Soho House, signs are posted inside that anyone caught with more than one person in the bathroom stall would be asked to leave and his or her membership would be immediately revoked. Apparently, multiple people in the bathrooms is a big problem there… who knew?
Anyway, I hope we get invited back to try the pool in the summer. It was definitely a fun experience!
