Showgasm at Ars Nova
Ars Nova has been putting on a Showgasm every Thursday night at 10 for about a month now as part of the ANT Fest. It is a great way to preview upcoming acts in the ANT Fest and see some pretty amazing shows for FREE… that’s right, FREE!
Showgasm was happening occasionally prior to ANT Fest, usually once every few months, but I think they were charging for them. However, now that ANT Fest is in town, Ars Nova will let you come to the show at no cost… what a great deal. The doors open at 10 pm, after the Ant Fest act is done. So far, I have seen three of Showgasms and I have seen some really good acts… that being said, I have also seem some I didn’t like so much.
Here is the beauty of Showgasm… it is a cabaret show of about 8 to 10 acts. That means, if you don’t like one of them, the performer is bound to get off the stage almost immediately and let someone else give it a go. The first Showgasm included an act by Joe Iconis (one of my favorites as you can see from previous posts) and a song sung by one of the stars of The Toxic Avenger. You get to hear a house band and a usually amusing emcee or two and see some up and coming, aspiring stars. This is an amazingly cheap way to see some great entertainment!
Make note that there is one more FREE Showgasm of the ANT Fest on Thursday, November 19 at 10 pm. What do you have to lose really? It is totally free and you never know what is going to happen!
