The Joe Iconis Halloween Party

A Joe Iconis Kind of HalloweenLast night was Halloween and I love to celebrate! Costumes and candy, what’s not to love? A group of friends reserved a table at the Laurie Beechman Theater to see Joe Iconis and his troupe of merrymakers perform for the evening. I have seen Joe many times before, once even at the Beechman Theater during a variety show. One of my favorite past performances of his was his Christmas Extravaganza last year at Ars Nova. He and his group always have so much energy and they always put on a great show.

We went knowing that Halloween would not disappoint. There was a $10 cover, which is included in your bill at the end of the night. There was also a $15 food minimum at the table, but still not a crazy expensive evening by New York standards. Everyone that participated in the show wore costumes and I was happy to see that most were homemade. There was a great Bruce Springsteen from his Glory Days years, a Max from Where the Wild Things Are, and Joe dressed as Beetlejuice.

They sang some new songs from a Spaghetti Western Musical that Joe is developing right now. The songs were amazing and we were pretty surprised when Joe said that those songs had been cut from the show. They also sang some great covers including Ghostbusters, perfect for Halloween. Finally, they sang my personal favorites, The Whiskey Song and Everyone’s At the Bar Without Me. While this show did not quite live up to the hype that Joe built up after his fabulous Christmas Show, it was still pretty amazing. I can’t wait to see what he is coming up with next!
