5 New York Bands I’d Love to See Live

Live MusicSo… I have been out of town for a little bit (hence my less than up-to-date posts). I have a hidden secret… I LOVE lists. I generally like to list things that I still want to do, such as books to read, places to visit, etc.

Since I have been away I have been listening to a lot of music and I some local bands are getting some serious rotation on my ipod. Since they are local, I would love to see them live. I have added them to my bands to track on tourfilter, a great site that emails you about upcoming shows in your area. Here they are, in no particular order.

1. Vampire Weekend – I missed these guys when they performed at the Happy Ending Music and Reading Series because I was in Paris. I still haven’t gotten over it.

2. Au Revoir Simone – This group of girls from Brooklyn is pleasantly mellow without being depressing.

3. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – I found this group on emusic. I know they have been performing around the city lately, but I haven’t been free to go to a show yet. I hope they keep up the touring schedule!

4. Bishop Allen – So they are described as “Brooklyn by-way-of Boston” but since Brooklyn is way cooler than Boston I am going to say they are locals. I found this group in the movie Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (one of New York’s great movies) and they seem like a lot of fun live.

5. Matt and Kim – I just saw this duo on MTV yesterday and I downloaded their newest album. It is so catchy I have not been able to stop listening.

Hopefully I will be able to report that I have seen some of these groups in the near future if you know of any upcoming dates for these bands, please let me know and keep checking back!
