Joe (The Art of Coffee) and Walking NYC

Summer is my favorite season, by far. There is something spectacular about walking the sidewalks of New York City on a cool, damp, fall day though. When autumn arrives I just want to be walking, walking everywhere. Today I left my apartment looking for a latte. Starbucks was too boring so I decided to try Joe, a place I had read about in a couple of magazines. The rain was coming down when I left, so I hopped the subway uptown, on the hunt for the perfect cup of coffee.

There is a Joe downtown, but I headed to its uptown location on 85th and Columbus. The spot is small and surprisingly crowded for a random Thursday after breakfast and before lunch. I ordered a large skim latte and saved one of the few tables left by the window. I was disappointed that they gave me a “to go” cup and not one of the nice white mugs, but I decided not to ask them to change it. The latte was individually made and the foam had a lovely design etched into it by the barista. I sat in the window with my coffee and Persuasion by Jane Austen and read while the wet people walked past.

Once the rain had died down I decided to walk home. This is what reminded my of my love for walking in autumn. I walked slowly (although not as slowly as many tourists), paused to notice signs (Red Velvet Frozen Custard at Shake Shack this month yeah!) and watched the people go by while my i-pod shuffled through Carole King and Annie Lennox. It was an extremely pleasant morning, and all for the cost of a latte!
