Next Thing You Know at Ars Nova

This was a little show that ran at Ars Nova two times in one night. It was AMAZING. It essentially consisted of songs by Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham. The songs were loosely fit together to form the backbone of a musical, although it is clearly still in working form. Shows like this are what makes New York City’s theater scene so amazing. There are very few places in the world where you get to see the next big shows in their raw, early stages.

The show had a live, small band and five actors. The actors played more or less the same character throughout all of the songs and although there was no set or props or costumes, the actors conveyed the plot lines fabulously. Don’t get me wrong, this show is not ready to open on Broadway tomorrow or anything, but that is the beauty of it. Seeing it before it gets all the kinks worked out is a great opportunity to be a (passive) part of the theater process!
