The Language of Trees

I went to see The Language of Trees at Roundabout Underground.  We got tickets through HipTix, a great program for people ages 18 to 35.  Essentially you register with HipTix, for free, and you can get tickets to any of their shows for $20 a show.  This is an amazing program if you like theater because Roundabout has several stages and you get great seats to any and all of them.

The Language of Trees was playing at Roundabout Underground, the smallest of Roundabout’s theaters.  It is a small black box theater, with about 100 seats total.  Seats are not assigned, but rather are first come, first serve, so if you want the front row you should get there early.  It seemed like you could see well from any seat, but my seat was sadly, uncomfortable.

The play was intense.  It centered around a family in 2003.  The father goes to Iraq as a civilian translator.  The mother and 7 year-old son are left behind.  About midway through the play the father is captured by enemy forces.  I usually like things that are more upbeat and positive, but this story captured my attention for the full two hours.  The acting was phenomenal.  The play made me think quite a bit about the issues it addressed, so all in all I would definitely recommend it.
