Alanis Morissette at Radio City Music Hall
The other night I went to see Alanis perform at Radio City. Radio City is one of my favorite venues to see almost anything. It is such a beautiful space, sometimes I feel like I would just pay to walk around. It is huge and grand and gorgeous. I always feel like I am stepping into a different New York when I go to see a show there.
While normally Radio City is not the cheapest venue in the city, I managed to get tickets that weren’t so expensive. I paid $40 for my ticket. You should note if you are planning on seeing something at Radio City for cheaper you should buy the tickets from the box office as it saves you a lot of money in service charges. It was in the first row of the third mezzanine on the side. I like to sit in the first row of the mezzanine at concerts because then the choice of whether you sit or stand at the show is yours alone. No one is standing up in front of you and you can decide when to get up and dance. These seats were pretty far away, but everything in my price range was far away and I could still hear perfectly.
The one down side to these seats was that I sat next to a very rude woman. During the opening act I was having a conversation with my friend (along with every one else in Radio City) and the woman next to me yelled at us that she paid $40 to see the whole show and not just Alanis. Now, if she had asked us to speak more quietly, we probably would have obliged, but because of her demeanor we just got louder. So, if you are planning on going to a show at Radio City and it is a somewhat loud band, such as Alanis is, please don’t expect complete silence during the opening band. If that is what you want, stay home and listen to your ipod. Thanks.
As for Alanis, she was great. She sang a lot of songs from Jagged Little Pill, her most popular album. Her songs included Ironic, Head Over Feet, You Oughta Know, and Not the Doctor. She ended her set before the encores with one of my favorites, So Pure, dedicated to New Yorkers as it opens with the lyrics “You from New York, you are so relevant.” She put on a good show and managed to twirl on stage for the longest time! I will look forward to her next album.
