Trivia Night at Common Grounds

Common Grounds is a bar in the East Village.  I would probably have never ventured there if Wednesday night was not Trivia Night.  I think that there are a lot of bars in the city that have trivia nights, so if you don’t like the East Village look around for other Trivia Nights.  Usually they are held on weekdays presumably so that the bars can boost their attendance on less crowded nights.  Common Grounds has an especially fun trivia night, although it can be extremely challenging.

Trivia Night is free of charge, but Common Grounds would probably appreciate it if you bought something to eat or drink while you were playing.  The night consists of six rounds of ten questions.  Each round has a theme, such as science or Capital cities in Eastern Europe.  Trust me that the questions are challenging.  I have gone with numerous college educated people and we all have trouble coming up with even 5 right answers for most of the rounds.

Last night my favorite round of all was a round devoted to the TV show Friends.  I am a Friends fan and knew the majority of the answers.  Here were some of the questions in this round:  1) In the one with all the resolutions, what was Ross’ resolution; 2) What is Chandler’s middle name?  3) What was the shape of Emma’s birthday cake?  4) Who did Rachel go to prom with?  5) How many of the guys did Janice sleep with?  6) What kind of animal is the stuffed doll that Joey steals from Emma (and for an extra point what was his name)? 7) What band does the group go to see on Ross’ birthday?  8)  What does Ross dress up as to tell Ben about Hanukah? 9) What girl kissed a girl in college?  If you are just a casual viewer of the show you would most likely have trouble with these answers but lucky for my team, I am a fanatic and knew the majority of the right answers.  Sadly, I am not was not as well versed in the Inventors and Inventions category.  Do you know what the inventor of champagne was doing for a living when he invented champagne?  I didn’t.

Anyways… this is a great cheap night out with a group.  Your team can be up to six people and you are not supposed to use any lifelines (i.e. you can’t call a friend or look on the internet from your phone).  The trivia questions are almost guaranteed to get you talking with the people around you.
